FSEOG Application Deadline

The FSEOG stand for Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant. It is given out to students who have serious financial need for college and higher education. The application deadline for the FSEOG is the same as the federal deadline for all aid and that is June 30th of the end of each school year. If you are attending school on the 2016-2017 school year, the application deadline is June 30th, 2017.

However, the FSEOG is a very limited grant and most of the time, the funds are all gone by the time the deadline rolls around so you must get your application in well before the deadline. The new FAFSA comes out on January 1st of each year for the school year that starts in August of that year. For example, if you plan on attending college in fall of 2014, you must fill out the FSEOG application that comes out on January 1st, 2017.

The FAFSA application is the same as the FSEOG application and you must fill this out to be eligible for any type of federal aid. When you decide to fill out the application, even though the deadline is June 30th of the next year, you must fill it out as soon as possible to make sure you get the most aid. The school is allowed to set their own application deadline for FSEOG funds since they are the party that distributes all of the funds. You should check with the school to see when they have set the FSEOG application deadline so you are sure that you have FSEOG eligibility.

When you are filling out the FAFSA, you will see that they are going to ask for tax information and most people do not have tax information complete in January so you will want to estimate your taxes so you can get your application in the system, even though they are not complete. Once your taxes are complete, you can go back in and make corrections to the FSEOG application and resubmit it.

The school will distribute aid based on the original date that you submitted your application so even if your tax information is not complete, you will still be in the running for FSEOG funds if you make the FSEOG application deadline. The maximum FSEOG funds you can receive is $4000 per school year and that is split between two semesters and if your school allows it, summer semester.
